The Healer
By Josh Watkins
My pain is great
My body trembles
Day after day I cry
out in anguish.
I am consumed by
darkness
Tormented by evil
Beaten down by the
world.
I try to run, try to
hide
But my troubles find
me.
I feel death closing
in
My breath is crushed
My eyes are blinded
My lips cannot even
utter a saving plea.
Help is nowhere to be
found
All hope seems lost.
With my dying breath
I cry out a Name.
A Name that saves
Death moans in agony
Darkness flees in
fear
I feel warm rays of
light kissing my skin.
I feel a hand on my
shoulder
Containing a touch so
marvelous
I am immediately
soothed.
The Owner of the hand
whispers gently into my ear
“I am with you.”
I no longer feel dead
But alive and well.
A life is growing
within me
So full of joy
That the world must
know their Savior lives.
He abolished death
Conquered evil
And sacrificed
Himself to save the ones He loves.
He is the Messiah
He is the Son of God
He is my Friend,
Redeemer, and King
He is Jesus Christ.
Life ain't always roses and daisies and sweet cherry pie. Life pelts you with lemons, curve balls, and ricocheting bullets. There were times I felt a little like the beginning of this poem, but it was over dramatized for effect. Yet, the second half breathes truth into anyone dealing with the first. All that pain, disappointment, sorrow that weighs you down and you feel as you have no hope, no one to turn to. The answer for that is right in front of you. He may not take all the bad stuff away, but He will be with you every step and when you can walk no further, He will carry you.
There is another poem called Footprints and its one of my favorite Christian pieces not written by me (google it). To sum up the poem, a man has a dream he is walking with the Lord on a beach. He see memories of his life flash before him, but on certain ones there were only one set of footprints instead of two. The man realizes that these times were his most difficult. He asks the Lord "Where were You?" The Lord replied "I will never leave you nor forsake you. During those times I carried you."
No matter what trials or judgments we face in life, if we have chosen the path of Light, to follow the Lord, He will carry us when we can no longer walk.
