Our Beginnings

The One and Only
By Josh Watkins

Creator of the earth,
Father of mankind,
How You long to be loved,
By Your people,
Who You created by Your own hand.
Yet they scorn and mock Your precious name.
They hide behind idols and religion,
So as not to believe.
They plug their ears with music of death,
They blind their eyes with Earth’s vanities,
And fill their mouths with words of poison,
So as not to sense You their King.
They light themselves on fire,
Cut their own flesh,
Kill others with no cause,
Bow down to rocks,
And believe animals became man,
Only to deny You more.
For those who believe and those who love You,
How great and vast a treasure they have,
For death is no longer to be feared,
For You are the Way of Life.
Eternity with You in Your kingdom,
Is more than this dark world can offer.
We are Your people,
We are Your love.
With hearts so big as to share Your love with the lost.
One day this earth will shake, tremble at the sound of Your mighty name,
And everyone will declare that You are God.
The Earth will die,
The sun will fail,
And the moon will fall.
Heaven will open its gates,
And You shall come to earth to claim Your people.
Until that day we will wait,
And continue to glorify You,
Our Savior, our Friend,

Ready to be with You at the end.

The Story of His Love
By Josh Watkins

Created from the dust of the earth,
With tender loving care,
Formed in His image,
Made as a pair.
Breathed into with the Breath of Life,
Blessed above all,
Given the greatest gift,
Only to turn it down and chose to fall.
Tricked by the serpent,
Captured by sin,
Stolen from the Kingdom,
Which is His to own and ours to win.
Sadness filled His heart,
For His people chose to die,
Realizing there was much work to be done,
To bring His people to His glory on high.
A nation he formed,
Through a man of old,
Hardships, disease, war, and sacrifice,
What a story to behold.
The nation wasn't perfect,
For sin was so great,
Something had to be done,
To save His people from their deadly fate.
Born of a virgin, born of God,
So pure, so Holy, so true,
He sent His greatest miracle,
To save the lost like me and you.
Miracle after miracle,
Came from His hands,
Healing, touching, and raising from the dead,
From the nearest house, to the farthest lands.
Then it came time,
For the greatest sacrifice known to man,
To die on the cross,
So sin would be erased in the blood of the Lamb.
An innocent man forced to die,
As thousands stood mocking his name,
Having no care in the world,
Bearing no shame.
Ignorant to the utmost degree,
Oh how they could not see,
That their Messiah, Redeemer, Savior, and King,
Was dying to set them free.
In the tomb did He lay,
Three days was all it took,
To overcome death,
And the mighty Earth shook.
Up from the grave he rose,
Up past the sky,
Over the clouds, past the stars,
And Under a watchful eye.
The price was paid,
The victory was won,
Thank our one God,
For sending His Son.

This wouldn't be a Christian blog if it didn't contain any Christian based pieces. These were written around the same time and one was presented at a Cleveland Heights Church evening service called Lighthouse and the other was performed at a Valentine's Day conference hosted by the Church in Pittsburgh.

The themes in these two pieces are similar in that they talk about creation. The first one talks about our Creator Himself: God. It tells He created us to love us, but we chose a different path. We chose to worship carved and lifeless idols. We chose to create all sorts of religious practices and fall to those lies. We chose to ignore Him and chase the material possessions of the world (cars, big houses, money, etc), to swear and curse and use the Lord's name in vain, burn ourselves in protest, slice our wrists, murder, etc. But all these things are vain compared to the treasure in store for those who believe.

This piece also mentions the END. How great destruction will come, being the current earth will pass away and the Lord will come with the New Jerusalem in tow.

The second piece describes the story of life. In a nutshell, the poem tells that God created man, and then man fell by being tricked by the serpent and eating of the forbidden fruit. So God chose a certain people the bring his glory back and he chose Abraham. Out of Abraham came Israel. Israel wasn't perfect and God had to bring them through a lot. To save this people and eventually the whole world, God sent His Son Jesus. He walked the earth, performed miracles, cared for people, and brought the gift of salvation. Ultimately, sin had to be taken care of and He, being a sinless man, was put to death by crucifixion. He took sin to the grave, conquered death, and rose from the grave conquering sin once and for all.

There will be more pieces about this faith to come.
