I Will See You Now

What the Eyes Reveal*
By Josh Watkins

As I meander around the city streets,
I see many, many people.
On those many, many people
Are many, many faces.
Each face in a different position,
Each face with a story to tell.
I try to read their expressions,
Wondering what course of the days events
Implanted those peculiar looks on their face.
Some have smug smiles,
Others hold grim postures.
Just looking at a human face alone is not enough,
To really find out who is behind the face,
One must gaze into their eyes.
The eyes see everything.
By staring into someone’s eyes,
You can see deep into their soul.
People believe they can hide their true appearance
Behind plastic surgery, make-up, and masks,
But out of all those worldly things,
The eyes remain unchanged.
Eyes bring the memories,
Witness spectacular events,
And allow the body to experience the world.
If it weren't for my eyes,
wouldn't have seen so many colorful events,
wouldn't see my little sisters’ smiling faces,

Or the radiant faces of those whom I call friends and hold dear to my heart.

The Truth Lies Within the Eyes
By Josh Watkins

Eyes are parts of the body
That are unique beyond all measure.
Even though their size is not great,
Their potential claims highest above all.
The eyes are the brain’s perception,
Allowing it to know truth and avoid deception.
They show the brain where to place the hand or foot,
Guiding the body keeping it safe.
Eyes must be treated with the utmost care,
For more than half the body’s energy is invested into them.
They capture the colors of the world,
Locate the smallest detail,
Perceive beauty, elegance, and grace,
And spy wonders beyond the stars.
People treasure their eyes,
Because the eyes contain the inner truth.
When the mouth refuses to open,
And the body doesn't flinch,
Eyes release the inner emotion.
Their twinkle reveals pride, joy, and glee,
Their shine shows glory, victory, and love.
Sunken eyes contain shame, sadness, and emptiness,
Eyes or fire protrude anger, revenge, hate, and desire.
Eyes can run wild and give you away,
While playing cards, telling a lie, or disguising a surprise.
To protect this treasure and shadow the truth,
Shades, like a veil, are placed upon them.
Behind a pair of shadows could lie a gleam or
twinkle, but beware, for shadows deceive.
They can hide a bruise, contain tears, conceal a scar,
bind the freedom of emotion, enslave the truth.
For this reason, the eyes must be cherished,
Given vast troves of love,
For if love is given, love will be returned.

Like most things I write about, I'm not a one-and-done. For this series, I produced three with these two being similar. They're pretty straightforward, but I'll give you highlights.

Piece #1: I like reading people's expressions, yet I'm not one to stare into faces. All I need is a glance or two to attempt to put together a thought on what that expression means.

*One line was edited.

Piece #2: The only thing I really have to say about this one is that I ended it on a weird note. The piece is all about eyes, but I ended it with love. Note to self: edit ending in the future.

This should do it for visionary pieces...haha that was bad.
